Take one year each of science, english, social studies, math and language. There is no need to double up. Fill up the rest of the schedule with electives that are easy A’s with no homework. Try to maximize the GPA while maintaining rigor. Take classes with good teachers. Avoid something that could destroy the GPA. You don’t need all AP classes but you should take at least a couple.

Take AP Calculus and physics. Step up the rigor for senior year to make adcoms believe you are ready for the transition from HS to college.

You should also consider that MSU received a record number of applications this cycle. I’m sure they will receive more applications next cycle. What does this mean? MSU will raise its standards and the amount of applicants with a 3.0 and below will be lower than the quoted ~6%.

Oh and 5 and 6 GPA’s are unheard of in my county. No one goes above a 4.5. So, yeah.

Res- “Quite an attitude! You’d think ps was talking about HYP not MSU”
I’m sorry, but someone rude and immature enough to call me “piece of crap” doesn’t deserve a spot in the Spartan family.

Sorry if I came off like a jerk, but I am simply stating my opinion. Someone who has worked hard to get a 3.0 in high school will be under a tremendous amount of stress in college.

Oh, and Romani, thanks :).

This is true. the ~6% is from the 2008 freshmen. Not 2009, let alone 2010.

Agree whole-heartedly.

And ps and I rarely agree on here :p

Well reading OP stats I think they have a decent chance and with help by their ACT. According to college board 6% of students get admitted into MSU with a GPA below 3.0 though 32% are admitted with ACT scores between 12-23.
If you apply early you should have a decent change, apply late it will not help.

I’m assuming your weighted GPA is a little higher than a 3.1

“Res- “Quite an attitude! You’d think ps was talking about HYP not MSU”
I’m sorry, but someone rude and immature enough to call me “piece of crap” doesn’t deserve a spot in the Spartan family.”

That’s very hypocritical of you considering you tried to attack me and tell me I’m better off in community college, especially from the guy who get’s 3’s on the AP exams. If you get 3’s on your AP exams you did not deserve a 4.0, so I’m assuming your classes must have been very easy at your school.

Second of all I don’t deserve to go to MSU because I called you a piece of crap for insulting me when I was trying to get some help? Please do you sit in your room all day and not see any of the people who party or start riots at MSU? Next time you talk please learn that circumstances aren’t the same for everyone.

Then why would you WANT to go to MSU? You don’t seem to hold it in very high esteem.

Yes, PS was extreme in saying that you should go to a CC. However, a 3.1 is not usually that hard to maintain unless you’re coming from a high-ranked prep school school. Sorry, but it is true. It is also true that your GPA is low for MSU.

However, calling someone a “piece of crap” because she said something you don’t want to hear is WRONG and immature. PS is completely right about that. Learn to take criticism or else you’re not going to survive at ANY college.

Yeah because people that insult others are not going to survive in college? I don’t think you understand the real world buddy. I understand that my GPA is on the low side I admitted that earliar. Please stop posting in my thread because you really aren’t helpful. I’ve seen you tell other people MSU was a reach for them and they got in without being deffered. Taking AP/Honors classes and getting a 3.1 unweighted is different from taking all easy classes and getting a 3.1

Whatever.

And I’m not your “buddy”.

OP, why ask for opinions when you’re just gonna argue them? psilovethomas and Romani gave you their opinions like you asked for, and if you’re so clueless about your chances, you really have no business challenging them.

They may come off as being mean, but they do know what they’re talking about.

I’m not trying to argue with them. I appreciate all the help given to me so far except for psilovethomas because he came in here without any help to give me and basically insulted me.

First of all, excuse you, I am a she.
And what does this have to do with anything?
“That’s very hypocritical of you considering you tried to attack me and tell me I’m better off in community college, especially from the guy who get’s 3’s on the AP exams. So what, I got 3’s on two AP exams-both English lit/lang. Obviously, it’s not my strongest area or study.
I come from a prestigious high school in Fairfax County, one of the RICHEST and most RENOWNED counties in the country know for its high academic rigor. So how DARE you say that my classes were easy.
I am in one of the most competitive fields of study at MSU and I dedicate my life to working my butt off to get into vet school. My classes have never been easy.

If you want to continue this conversation, PM me. Keep it off the boards, or I’ll send a moderator.

Aha PS, not fun when people attack you is it?

I got a 3 on both AP English exams too. Those things are just a pain in the arse.

Indeed! :)

Ah, but Romani, I have never insulted your intelligence;).
I just get a little upset when someone hints that I am a slacker.

Once again don’t act so smart. your going to report me for flaming my thread? Go for it and please stop posting here

We’re allowed to post all we want. You made the thread. You opened it up to others.

And she can very well send the mods for you calling her a “piece of crap”. The mods don’t take lightly to personal insults.

I think you have a great chance to get into MSU. I’m actually from Michigan, and with the rigor of your schedule and your ACT I think you have a great shot. Just make sure to apply early. But seriously, in state+above average ACT+pretty decent courseload+early application should equal admittance. I know a kid who got into UM with a 26 and a 3.5. MSU isn’t nearly as selective, so I’m confident you will get in.

Thank you haha I’m glad some people are more mature then others.

hahalolk, actually his ACT is exactly average for the 2009 incoming class and in the bottom 25% of GPA.

Roman he never said Michigan states average he just said act and the average act score is a 21.
