PSU main has not yet started notifying of admission decisions so no one has probably heard yet. But that being said, i think you have a good chance at summer admission. My daughter has similar stats (3.4 UW and 28 composite ACT, 8 honors courses) and she was told by the admissions counselor on her tour that she was competitive for summer and borderline for fall.

It’s hard to say because her school does things differently…and PSU will translate into their own scale because different schools do things differently (for example, an A at my daughters school is 94 and above…at a nearby school it’s 92. Some school are out of a 4.0 scale, others 6.0 etc…). But, from what I can tell, her weighted GPA would be somewhere around a 3.6 on her schools scale. Maybe a little higher. I have no idea what that translates into at PSU.

Jihpsu… Yes I heard that they translate gpa at penn state to meet their scale too since so many schools are so different. But I heard they keep weighted. And Thank you psu mom… I need all the luck I can get! Thank you!

@Nikki1079 I wish I knew more! The process is so variable and every time anyone thinks they have it figured out, some anomaly comes along and changes the conventional wisdom! There does not seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason! Good luck!

@Nikki1079 NO other schools! That’s why this is so stressful! She applied for fall, said she’d go summer and put a branch campus as an alternative. So some way or the other she’s going to Penn State. Her father and I are both alumni and she’s said she wanted to go to PSU since she was 5

@jlhpsu since you and your husband are both alumni that is going to really help her chances. That’s a very rare combo and admissions will take that into consideration, plus she has good credentials already. Best of luck :)

I wish you luck on getting in. I have about the same stats as you and I applied to Penn State UP. That’s my first choice college, and I really only want to go to that school I can tell you that it is more competitive for out of state people to get admitted, and you have a higher chance of acceptance if you apply for the summer session (So i’m told).

That’s actually not true according to PSU. There is no preference given to oos vs. in state vs. international etc…My D took part in the online admissions chat tonight and someone asked that question specifically and they said no preference given for location.

Hmmm, that’s odd. My tour guide told my group that, but I guess they were just coming up with an answer on the spot. Forgot about the online chat tonight, thanks for reminding me :)
