I recently applied to temple and just visited their open house. Temple is a great option for me, but i am a bit worried about my chances of getting into the honors program. Also, for the academic scholarships, do they take other things into consideration besides gpa, sat score, and rank? Okay so my stats are
GPA: 3.89 unweighted 4.19 weighted
SAT: 1260 reading and math
Rank: top 10%
Courses: All honors or gifted plus 6 AP courses
ECs: a lot of community service clubs
Recs: 1 counselor 1 teacher (both good)
Decent essay? it was proofread by my english teacher
Additional stuff: I am a minority (female, mexican), i am first in fam to go to college, and in-state
Its hard to say, there is a chance… but this years stats for honors I read were average SAT 1390 and GPA 3.9. I am pretty sure I was told you have to hit the SAT or ACT scores for the respective scholarships, while the GPAs they re-weight by their own formula…
gpa is fine. is sat still 1300 for honors admit or has that gone up?
kindof on your scholarship question. i am not too sure how they work that out but since you can get scholarship applying Temple option(ie no test scores), obs Temple has some mechanism in place to take into account what you noted above. Does Temple know you are minority and first in family to attend college?
ok, my apologies, it is 1360 for auto admit to honors, i had too low of a score noted above. i would retake SAT if if were you, i know it’s getting late but i still would take SAT or take ACT, whichever you think you will do better on. what is breakdown on SAT score? i don’t see you getting into Business honors but that is a guess. it has gotten competitive enough i suspect your SAT will keep you out, i think* business kids can be accepted to both business honors and regular honors, if i am correct on that point, you have shot for regular honors but my guess is they would prefer to see SAT, which they do superscore, closer to 1360 than where you are at.
re updated test, Temple needs to have scores by Jan 15th so make sure you can have test results into them on or before that date. otherwise, if you can’t get scores in by that date, then there would be no point to retake SAT or take ACT.
if you can afford Temple with the lower scholarship amount, it is still worth it to come, i believe you can apply to regular honors once you are at Temple so if you don’t get into honors as a first semester freshman, you can apply for honors while a student at Temple. i am not sure about business honors.
