Can anyone who got into Temple Honors tell me what their stats were, and how that also figures into the merit scholarships? My daughter has a 3.11 unweighted GPA, 4.14 weighted. Does only unweighted GPA count for Temple Honors? (If so, the 3.7 average is amazingly high!) And is that also the same for the merit scholarships?

I wondered on the unweighted issue myself. temple spells it out very clearly somewhere in the admission section website how scholarships work other than the weighted issue. As you may know a GPA at 3.0 above allows for a 3 to 5 k scholarship so long as SAT (old scale) is at least 1150. i’d get in touch with them directly. I’ve had quite a few questions and they have been responsive both via email and when calling. I was on hold awhile when I called(which I understood) cause I had some complex questions but I spoke to an admissions officer who was very helpful and gracious. Their student employees field the more basic questions and are quick to respond back.

Hey sorry for the late response,
I’m actually a temple Freshmen with a merit scholarship. Temple takes in consideration your unweighted GPAs for the honors college from what I know. The best person to talk to you is the director of the Honor’s college Ruth. The scholarships and honors college admission for freshmen is done through the admissions department. From what I can tell you, if your son/daughter has a at least a 3.0 and 1150 or 26 on the ACT they will get at least 3,000 dollars which is a nice sum. My freshmen friends in the honors college are very intelligent, but that does not mean that people not in the honors college are less intelligent. I had an act score report sent to temple which was never found thus I wasn’t given honors college admission. I have met so many brilliant people in my classes. Sorry for the long post and I DO NOT SPEAK ON BEHALF OF TEMPLE. If you have any questions, feel free to ask by inbox though I might take a few days to respond as I have mid-terms next week.

I recently emailed an admissions rep about the same thing (I was wondering because I might qualify for the full tuition scholarships next year). He told me that they accept GPAs on a 5.0 scale. So, to answer your question, from what he told me, they accept the weighted GPA. Also, when I saw on the website the statistic about a 3.7 GPA average, I just assumed that it was their GPA in college, but you may be correct in what you said. If it is high school I’m going to assume the mean weighted. Sorry about this being so late. I figured I would post it just so other people can see.
They do weight (but they do it their own way) but they only consider core courses (so gym, music, etc don’t count). That’s what I was told…
