Hi guys. I am a ninth grader at a private school in rhode island and I come from a South Korean background. I have all A’s in class and I take Spanish2, Honors Geometry, AP Environmental Science, Latin 1, English, and History. I also take Chinese outside of school and won ten awards in Chinese speech and I am fluent in Korean. I play soccer as well as the piano. I also scored in the 97th percentile on the ssat test( 99 verbal, 99 math, but 77 in reading) and my interviews went very well. I am applying to these schools:
Phillips Exeter
Phillips Andover
Middlesex
Choate Rosemary Hall
Your post belongs in the Prep School Chances forum. Please be aware that there are a ton of qualified applicants for all of these highly selective schools. No one on the forum can really tell you what your chances are, but try to make your application stand out from the pack. Good luck!
You should probably expand to some less competitive schools Like Milton academy or northfield mount hermon. i think that you probalby are in at all of these schools except andover and exeter. I am an applicant to some schools like these and you really just dont know if you will get into schools like exeter.
It’s almost always harder to get in as a 10th grader. If you are committed to going to BS next year as a 10th grader, you might want to add a few more schools to your list.
SSAT seems fine. From what I gather from what I’ve read on this forum the legacy status is a plus for you at Exeter. How good are you at soccer? Have you contacted the coaches if you think you would be an impact player?
No. I probably should though. I am a good player though and I am getting a recommendation from my coach. Despite my dad coming out of Exeter, I really want to go to Andover. Do you think I could get in if I write really good essays? My English and math reccomendations are really good too.
Thanks Center! I really needed that. Do any of you know an Andover or Exeter student that got in? If so what ws there profile?(ssat, grades, ec’s, etc.)
My kid was accepted at both Andover and Exeter last year but knowing what I know about the profiles of new peers at school as well as the profiles of a few kids that just started at Exeter, I have to say that there isn’t a typical profile. The schools want a diverse class of motivated, talented and engaged kids. Also consider that there are kids with very strong profiles across the board who don’t gain admission to these schools. Just as an example, my kid was waitlisted at another school despite being offered admission at A and E and a few others. I heartily second the post by @cameo43 above; there isn’t a magic formula and there are no tea leaves to read. The only exception I am willing to consider is if your family is prepared to write a multi-million dollar check right now to fully fund a much needed capital improvement at a school. And if that’s the case I sure am happy you like Andover! (In all seriousness, money or not l think it’s great you are considering Andover.)
@bobd2902 my son applied to and was accepted to both schools. I agree with others that there is no magic formula. Your alumni is important. In fact it could hurt you with Andover. Pm me if you like.
I guess I left out a major detail that I am a reapplication to both Andover and Exeter( my SSAT scores were really bad)
Do you guys think that this will show persistence? Thanks
