Hey guys, just looking for a little insight from people who may have prior experience applying to schools. I'm trying to figure out if UIUC is a legit option for me or if I have no chance. Let me know what you think:

(Currently a Junior)
GPA: 3.58; 3.95 since start of sophomore year
ACT: 28; taking it again in April

Gotten A's in Honors Physics, Honors Global Economics, AP Psychology, taking AP Physics next year
Extracurricular activities: Baseball (JV) freshman-sophomore year... I work a job year round
I am an Illinois resident.
Member of the AVID program (if you don't know what that is, then ignore it, haha)

What do you guys think of my chances? Let me know, Thanks!

I think you can definitely get in! I got into University of Illinois for Political Science about a month ago, here are a few of my stats:

-GPA (UW/W): 3.67/3.71 (Only 1 AP Jr. year which was APUSH where I got a 5 on the AP test)
-2 APs this year (Gov and Stats)/ pretty solid schedule of honors and such all 4 years
-1940 SAT (600 CR 640 W 700 M)
-California Resident, pretty competitive public school
-4 years varsity Lacrosse, Scholar Athlete award and Principal’s Honor roll, 1 year club board member (also involved in other clubs), church volunteer work, 2 yrs. JV football, 3 years of ASL, tons of arts (cartooning, ceramics, guitar)
-I think I had pretty strong essays as well :)

You seem very well rounded and the fact that you are in state will help!

Depending on your intended major, it should be a match to rather high match for you. For UIUC, you apply directly to the program (although you can do undecided general studies initially). The admission stat vary a lot. For instance, your credential may be a bit weak for engineering programs (mid 50 ACT ~31-34).

It’s a match except for engineering/CS.
However, Illinois is notorious for a relatively high price in-state and bad financial aid, so you should look into other universities where you could get merit scholarships - start with the CTCL’s.

In addition, due to AVID, I suppose that you’re first gen/lower income, so you may want to look into the colleges that meet 100% need. They’re all very/highly/most selective, but for a lower-income student they’re probably the closest to full tuition/full ride scholarships you can get.

You may have a shot at number 3, 12, 13, 16, 22, 23, 27,30, 32, 50, 47, 53, 55, 60, 79 (some made it a priority to recruit kids from Upward Bound/Trio/Avid…)
