Can I get into University of Penn from a community?

I am currently attending a community college, this is my 3rd semester. I have a 3.8 GPA, I am a great writer and I am the chair of student Government. I did not do well in high school. I did not graduate at the top of my class and I wasn’t in NHS. I want to apply to University of Penn. What are my chances of getting in?

Typical viable transfer applicants are either athletic recruit transfers or other top scholars, who as seniors were accepted to similar colleges but did not attend for one reason or another. If you weren’t already the sort of student that Penn would have readily accepted as a HS senior, your chances as a transfer student are practically non-existent, I’m afraid.

You’ve done well and matured. You’ll have many options before you as indeed, you’re very attractive to many 4year colleges now. But the transfer pool to Ivies is more rigorous than the freshman applicant pool. This isn’t a path for you.

Good luck

Sorry for the late reply. In the Wharton class I teach, there was a student last year who transferred to CAS from a community college, so yes it’s possible.

It is possible, but it would be very difficult to do. Cast a wide net in terms of applications (including Penn) and see how things turn out.

@melmel9612, Have you considered UPenn LPS for more non-traditional students? http://www.sas.upenn.edu/lps/undergraduate
