your stats are great! But the problem is that you are the average applicant for UPenn & Brown so you definately have a shot, but you'll have a better chance if you have a great hook/something that will stand out. Writing an outstanding essay won't hurt either ;) Good luck!

UPenn is more competitive than Brown but Brown is a crapshoot. Because Brown is the lowest of the Ivies, it basically ends up having to make its admissions a crapshoot so that it can keep applications coming in.

Your scores are similar to mine so I wish you the best of luck - I have all 4s and 5s on my APs but I'm still worried. I haven't decided which Ivies I'm applying to but I do like Dartmouth a lot.

Do you have any cool stories from founding Amnesty International that you could use as a hook?

^^ what a stupid statement! brown is NOT the lowest of the ivies. cornell is. and also, upenn and brown are equally competitive, and if you disregard wharton, brown is MORE competitive than penn

^^ actually, there is. the vast majority of folks who are choosing between cornell and another ivy goes to the other ivy. i dare to say that cornell also has the lowest endowment or close to that

So, is your definition of "lowest" lowest enrollment of those accepted? "lowest" endowment? Because my definiton of highest vs lowest is in terms of hotel school ranking and engineering. Ah...it apears that your "lowest" is the "highest" in those categories. I'm not going to debate a "lowest" vs. "highest" school here. I don't want to hijack someone's chances thread.

"^^ actually, there is. the vast majority of folks who are choosing between cornell and another ivy goes to the other ivy. i dare to say that cornell also has the lowest endowment or close to that"

wow...i hate to do this...but what a stupid post...talk about a complex. too bad you "dared" to talk about endowment, since your statement on this useless metric is wrong. i don't go to cornell, so no ad hominem...or other fallacies plz.

well, karl marks, if you believe that cornell is a "higher" ivy than the rest, i respectfully disagree. let's toss the PC for a sec. endowment is not indicative of a school's place on the "ladder"? honestly, do you REALLY believe that?

Well, you have the stats (the ECs are a bit weak, but won't kill your chances). Both schools would be reaches for you, however, due to the crapshoot nature of their admissions processes. I'd recommend you come up with (if you haven't already) a list of 4 or more good fit & likely schools to use as back-ups in case both Brown and Penn reject you.

Brown is not harder to get into than Upenn. They are about equal. The only thing for certain is that Penn and Brown are harder to get into than Columbia SEAS ;)

ohh my.......
dartmouth and brown, though smaller in size, have significantly smaller endowments, and columbia (and another ivy, i'm pretty sure) have a similiar size amt. And avg gpa at Cornell is 3.3+, on par if not higher than most ivies. Too much crap is spewed on CC as "truths" or whatever, which is misleading to many ppl who read these boards and need info. no one doubts that the avg. student at harvard is probably "smarter" than the avg. student at cornell, but trying to distinguish b/w "higher" and "lower" ivies, esp in the manner described, is meaningless and only furthers such misinformation.

You have above average stats (for the colleges in question) but ECs that leave a little to be desired. I would suggest applying ED at either school to maximize your chances.

how good are you at crew? good enough to be recruited? i know a guy at my school who was recruited by and accepted into upenn but turned it down because of financial reasons.
