Greetings! Although I am new here at college confidential, I am a constant lurker and love how you guys support students like US.
So, as an international student, what are my chances of getting into UT Austin/ Georgia Tech if I am applying for Computer Science?
Here are my scores:
ACT:32 (E:32 M:35 R:35 S:24) [I know science is too low >_<]
SAT I:1920 ( R:590 M:720 W:610)
SAT II: Physics: 790 / Maths : 780
AP: Physics I, Physics II, Physics C - Mechanics and Electromagnetism and Calculus BC: 5 on all.
Future: TOEFL/Japanese Language & Culture AP/Computer Science AP
Note: These all tests have been my first attempts.
Another question is that my Science score is too low (I always scored a 33-35 when I gave mock tests). I read somewhere that AP/Sat Subject scored could cover up for ACT science scores. Is this true? I have my doubts because Science section in ACT is completely different from the above tests.
Thank you Guys!
OP here. And please kindly guide me what should/could I do?
If your applying for computer science you really have to bring up that science score. The Sat Subject tests will not make up for the ACT Science portion of the test, in fact, the SAT subject tests aren’t even required for most colleges. I would recommend that you take the ACT again and only focus on the science section. Georgia Tech takes a superscore for the ACT meaning that they will take the highest score for each subject no matter what date you have taken it. Once you do that you have a good chance at Georgia Tech. Unfortunately for UT Austin, they prefer in state students more than out of state or international students so this school would be a reach for you. How are your grades btw? Those will make a huge difference between whether you get accepted to these schools or not.
Hope this helps
your UT chances are slim unless you have some amazing extra curricular that sets you apart from others. it’s worth a shot , though! what other US schools are you applying to , if any? i think you should look into purdue if you havent already.
@spamuser Thanks for the reply. I have >95% scores for my 9th and 10th grades 11th:85% 12th:92%. Are super scored scores and normal (test in one sitting) scores treated as equal?
Some colleges like Georgia Tech do superscore however most colleges like UT Austin don’t do this. They take the highest score you earned in one sitting so if possible get that high science score while maintaining or improving in the other areas. Also did you take the writing portion of the ACT?
Does your school class rank? UT Austin puts a heavy emphasis on class rank. Unfortunately I don’t know how colleges look at percentages since most high schools here use the GPA system. Sorry
