i dont know what to do, can someone give me advice? i really want to go to UVA
PSAT score was bad like a 1620 i think. im gunna work really hard on that though

SATs are really low, you’re gonna need perhaps a 2100ish. Rack up more EC’s man, being band leader or w.e. still won’t cut it. No offense, but so far, it’s looking dim.

You can always catch up and whatnot, but still…
Remember, lots of people do the CC/Safety school than transfer approach

From my school (also in state) the basic and lowest requirements to get into UVA are ~4.1 GPA and 2100 SAT, some EC’s are nice after that but its mostly cushioning from there on out. Take the classes you want to take, don’t have your GPA at the forefront of your mind, though you should still be challenging yourself.

Are you in-state for UVA?

actually a 1620 isnt bad for a sopomore he still has a year and half to get it up to the 2000 range

and yes he did say he is instate

^^^^ Obv. he can easily get it up, I was replying as if he wanted to know if he’d get in with what he has now

1620 was a PSAT score, and you’re still a sophomore.

Right now you need to think about taking some more AP Classes and maintaining that GPA, becaue it’s vital.

Take some SAT II’s and look into the ACT (It’s not required but still impressive).

I’m an uncoming senior and UVA Hopeful, and I wish I’d maintained my GPA as well as you have your underclassmen years.

Get involved in some sports and activities and gain some leadership positions.

Start to expand beyond school and volunteer around the community.

Best of luck and if you have any questions PM me!

If you can get your SAT 2100-ish, there’s no reason to take the ACT as well. Don’t stress yourself out with extra tests. The exception is if the ACT, which tests what you already know rather than your problem solving and includes a fairly easy science section to cushion your score, is better suited to your style.

i scored a 1700 SAT and 33 ACT, different tests, test different kinds of intelligences.

personally i think ACT is the most valid test because it actully tests material that a person should know before college.

for example:
English- learn how to identify and in the future write proper and concise english
math- up to precalc, so IMO if you get a 30+ you should be ready for calculus
reading- how to read for “business” not for pleasure which is essential because in college you must learn how to effectively read
science- problem solving

as for the SAT how is having just a strong vocabulary the key to succeeding in college and for the math section it is not relavent to have confusing questions like that. in physics, chem, and engineering the math you need to know is formuated

You don’t need a 2100 to get into U-Va in state. I sent two kids there who didn’t have anywhere near that, and we’re from NOVA. A third didn’t apply to U-Va but got into William and Mary with nowhere near a 2100. What all three did have was a consistent record of high achievement in tough classes. U-Va knows Virginia high schools and will hold it against you if your course selection doesn’t stack up with the best in your class. You don’t have to take AP everything, but not taking honors or AP English isn’t going to help you.

I’d recommend taking the ACT. There’s simply no downside. Some students do end up doing much better on the ACT than the SAT, and if you happen to be one of them you can send your ACT to colleges instead of the SAT. Regardless, you don’t need a 2100. Scoring in the 600s in each of the three areas and combining that with an excellent academic record that places you comfortably in the top ten percent will likely get you admitted if you are in state.

dude you’re so dumb just give up now
