I am in the top 17% of my graduating class. I go to a very competitive, very large public high school in Texas. I got a 29 on my ACT but im retaking it and hoping to make a 30 or 31. I have taken all AP or advanced classes since my Freshman year and have gotten mostly A’s and B’s. I made 4’s on both of the AP exams I took my junior year. My essays are really good (not meaning to brag or sound cocky. Im just a very strong writer because of journalism and yearbook). I’m obviously not as academically strong as other students applying to the school but I have an impressive resume to make up for it (hopefully). I am applying Early Decision.

I played varsity field hockey for 3 years and served as a captain my senior year.
I held leadership positions in National Charity League. I also received many awards for having the most community service hours in my NCL chapter in addition to receiving the Presidential Service Award (this requires having 150-250 service hours in a single calendar year) 4 years in a row.
I also led a fundraising event for my school junior year that required my to volunteer EVERY Saturday morning.
I am a reporter on the yearbook staff.
I raised over $4000 for American Diabetes Association and held a leadership position on the Sweetheart Program Executive Board.
I am a member of National Honor Society.
I served as a peer mentor in a selective program at my school for two years.
I am an active member in my church at bible studies and serve as an acolyte in services.
I tutored Middle School Students in math for three years.
I served as a teachers assistant at a preschool over the summers and on weekends.
I volunteer at an animal rehabilitation center.
I worked as a camp counselor at a camp for children with disabilities and diseases (cerebral palsy, PIKU, diabetes, cancer).
I worked for a endowment foundation through the University of Texas to raise money and awareness for various types of cancer.

Do you think I have a chance of getting into Vanderbilt? While my grades aren’t superb I worked really hard all four years to build my resume and do as much community service work as I could.
