say i have 60 credits i could tranfer to stanford
but stanford only accepts up to 45.
so if, say physics, is one of them,
can i get placement for having taken ap physics (go to next level class, exempt from first year class) but NOT receive the 10 units of credit (since that would overflow from the maximum of 45)

does this work? b/c I still want to be exempt from those intro courses
even if i don't get past 45 credits, you know?

Yes, you can do that. In many departments, they don’t even check if you have the prerequisites. If you skip classes in your major, though, make sure the department is going to be okay with it.

There’s only a couple of departments that care about prereqs for classes, most notably the Economics department (they are a little crazy in my opinion–you can’t register for classes without prereqs). The (vast) majority of the university really doesn’t care about pre-reqs AT ALL. So if you want to come in as a freshman and take the Math PhD Analysis series, you are more than welcome to do so if you think you can handle it (and I know someone that did this, and he’s getting a math phd at harvard now).
