Rapidshare works yo! I use to dl from the lanline, then disconnect, and connect to the wifi, and dl another file! seriously considering getting an account like most geeks/webpeeps/4chaners/cheepcollegestudents out there are doing!

Only thing I can think of now is to do a remote desktop with my desktop at home, then transfer files to my laptop…

rapidshare is confusing…

the website is not very user friendly

can you get commercial files from the website too?

also, does rapidshare do bulk downloads, like one season of a tv show or something

there are many dedicated websites for rapidshare users pm me if you want them

If you are a premium member you can download multiple parts at once so a tvshow would be about 3 files ~300mb. So you would download 3 at once and join the parts. I say its worth the money since you cant use torrents

also it would be cheaper if you find people willing to pitch in and share an account

if rs is confusing you, then there is a whole chunk of the internet file sharing sub-genre that you are missing out on… not being offensive, most internet users are just no aware of it, its normally web geeks that get into those kind of forums and online communities which share all sort of “goods” via file hosting sites like rapidshare.

ps, tehlunatic will steer you in the right direction ;)

RS is actually one of the worst sharing sites in the world.

I prefer megaupload hella more. No wait time, and full download speed.

Also, is there a download cap /month or something??

I guess once I’m in UCR I won’t be able to get Bleach episodes from dattebayo

:(

so, I guess RS doesn’t do bulk downloads

I’ve seen files that are 15 GB or more on mininova…

other than that, since I have a Zune, I could always sign up for that subscription service-

15 dollars per month, you get to keep ten songs forever each month, plus unlimited downloads, except the unlimited download songs disappear once you go off the subscription service

or buy CDs…
I’m staying away from iTunes, even if it is DRM free

so is that mean i cant use a wireless printer?

are you sure East Lothian doesn’t have WIFI? UCR sent me this folder thing with all the info about housing and stuff, it said that Lothian does have WIFI.

All I heard was that it was “iffy”

I’m not sure about wireless printers, if it uses the same function as wireless mice, then it’s ok. If it utilizes spooling, then probably not

Rapidshare can download in bulk… you just need a premium account.

Rapidshare sucks if you don’t have premium because of the long wait time and megaupload is better for free user. However Rapidshare is more universal and many warez forums are mostly dedicated to Rapidshare only. Its much easier to download stuff by Rapidshare. As harabok said, there is a download limit which is 150GB per month or 5GB per day for premium user. I don’t believe I’ll have the need to use that much anyways.

Wait… so can we use rapidshare/megaupload? I think UCR checks how much data we use or something. If you use an excessive amount of data, they WILL keep an eye on you.

I would be SO glad if we could use them though. But… downloading songs would still be illegal no? ):

I guess I’ll just start downloading now to make up for it…

lol

well without torrents I’m stumped, so I doubt I’d be watched for excessive file usage, unless I start downloading game demos or something…

I believe rapidshare and megaupload is fine in school. Its just the torrent that will cause the problems.
And downloading songs is always illegal ;)

Also whats the download speed at UCR? It would be awesome if its couple megs per second :D

if you are a mass downloader, you might be a strain on the network. remember, we’re all sharing the internet.

apparently, some schools banned file sharing sites like rapidshare and megaupload… so i don’t know how safe it is to use it.

Mehedi said it works fine so Im guessing its fine at UCR

Well, downloading songs doesn’t necessarily have to be illegal
sometimes there’s free stuff out there

But overall, I guess I’ll be fine with the internet at UCR, given what I normally use the internet for

I just want to be able to use Rapidshare…I normally download movies in Blu-Ray 720p (so anywhere from 4.37GB to 7GB).But luckily I’m downloading them at home…i’ll probably only download the 700MB movies at UCR.Will I be caught?

I never saw the point of 4 GB blue ray movies…

it’s hard enough putting 700 MB avi files in my Zune mp3 player

I really think you can be caught. you will use 700mb of data for ONE movie… while “regular” users probably use less than 100mb a day downloading random things off the internet.

I am VERY sure that most colleges (I don’t know about UCR) will track people who use more data than usual. Downloading illegal stuff at college is not a joke. You will get warned at first… then eventually you will be fined. ):

Well I heard many cases where rapidshare is perfectly fine. I have couple friends using rapidshare at their respective schools and they download movies, games, music, programs, etc and they havent been caught yet.

If you get warned, you should stop then

In other case, It would be hard to track what files are being downloaded because usually for rapidshare its in parts. Its hard to determine what you are downloading if you are not downloading the full program or movie itself.
