Well I took the March SAT and was not satisfied with my score. I was happy, however, that it increased.
Right now I've been studying non stop for the ACT, but as soon as I take it (04/14/12) I will begin to study for the SAT. For the March one I studied somewhat, but not enough.

I got 1740: 560 R, 590 M, 590 W(8 on essay.)
I improved 180 points from my PSAT.
My goal is to improve at least 150+
Then retake again first thing next year (i'm a junior.)

Memorize the vocabulary from Direct hits.
Use the blue book for practice tests.
Use gruber’s to improve your math score.
Read silver turtle’s guide and thread on how to score a 12 essay

My CR score was pretty bad on my PSAT so I studied in the blue book and every time I saw a vocab word I didn’t recognize, I put the word and its definition in flash cards on my iPhone and studied them whenever I had a spare minute with my phone.
I was already good at Writing, but I wasn’t happy with my Math score, so I bought a few prep books that focus on the SAT Math alone and it helps.
Practice is the best way to study. Take practice tests and get prep books for the individual subjects.
As for the essay, I didn’t study it at all. They judge the essay based on how well written it appears to be. The best way to get a high score is to write passionately about a unique idea and be sure to fill the entire block of space (or as much as you can). I filled the entire thing perfectly and got an 11, so it really helps.

My friend got a 1740 first time and went up to a 1930 second try with no studying in between (and no, she’s not exactly the smartest either.)
WHAT I DID: (680CR/780M/790W for a 2250C)
MATH: practice problems. literally underline what you have to find. A lot of the time you find x when you need to find 2x or x+10. The ETS loves that. It’s cumbersome at first, but it’s what gets you to the near 800 range.
WRITING MC: memorized a list of idioms and used common logic. ended up with one wrong on mc.
ESSAY: go through the previous threads about writing a “12 essay in 10 days” people have posted several different generic intros and conclusions. try to formulate one of your own based on those. Oh, and PRACTICE. for your literary sources, make sure you memorize the following for atleast 8 books: title, author, publication year, publication place, and a once sentence plot summary.
CRITICAL READING: honestly, reading Silverturtle’s guide boosted my score a good 100 points. vocab: memorize the sparknotes top 250 and DH for a perfect(:
goodluck!

I’m taking my SATS again next month, subject tests in June, and SATS one more time possibly in October depending on my scores and I’m looking for study tips too!

CR: Every teacher always yells at me to read more and it does help a lot. I read Brave New World, Breakfast of Champions, and some other classics over them summer and I can pick out symbolism and understand things a lot better now. Compare them to Sparknotes too so you actually know what’s going on!

M: I did really bad on this section but, if you google Khanacademy, he has a ton of math videos to help you with everything you need to know. He has some going over SAT questions too.

W: Reading and understanding the flow of things helps out a lot. Teachers at my school make us write blogs for our classes (most annoying thing in the world but whatever >_>). It makes us write a lot and we tend to get good scores on out essays. You can try asking a teacher if they want to read some stuff that you write? Go over some grammar rules too!

I had an 8 on the Essay too so I won’t be that much help. Lol. @cocoforcollege gave a lot of great tips! I’d use them all!

Thank’s for your tips and input Ally and Clad! Yeah, I definitely believe in improvement. In my 10th grade PSAT I got a 1310 then when I took the PSAT again I got 1560 :O, now I’ve learned A LOT more.
