Hi! So, I got my ACT score back for September and it is a 30 AGAIN. This is the third time in a row I've gotten a 30. To be fair, I did not study at all from the June test to the September test, but it is still frustrating because it's a 30.25!! = P I improved my Reading and English score by a point, but I dropped 2 points in math. (E-35, M-26, R-32, S-28) It's silly because I am currently a senior taking College Algebra and I have a 100% in the class. I think I just have time remembering the skills from previous maths like Geometry. Anyway, I am going to need to apply to colleges soon and most scholarship deadlines are December 1st. For many score-based scholarships, the award differential is quite significant between a 30 and >30. It seems my perfect 4.0 GPA doesn't decrease the gap as well. So, should I dish out the $22 late fee and register to take the October ACT, or am I not likely to be able and improve before then? Now that I see how dire the time is, I am willing to really put forth the effort to prepare for the October one, but I just don't know if one month is enough time to honestly increase my score. = / What is your opinion? Try for it or keep the 30? Thanks!!

One month is usually not enough time for people to increase their scores, especially when they’ve stayed consistent. If you wanted to see any significant increase in your scores, you would probably need to give yourself at least 3 months, which is why studying over the summer would’ve been a good idea. Judge for yourself if you really think it’s worth spending the time and money preparing over the next month, when your scores will most likely stay the same. However, if you’re that desperate to get scholarships, I’d say take the chance and give it a shot, because you never know. But a 30 is still an excellent score, and with your GPA, I’m sure you will still be eligible for plenty of other scholarships and unless you are applying to any ivy leagues or any schools like those, that score will definitely impress colleges! Good luck!

I disagree, I think that if, within this month, you practice, work on strategies (it seems mostly in math and science) then I certainly think you can improve. With math, just practice and review pre alg, geo and trig. And with science, just practice practice practice so you get the timing down pat, and a good system in place so you can kick butt on test day! and if worse comes to worse, and you end up getting a 30 for the 4th time in a row, it’s not the end of the world- so many kids would kill for a 30. Good luck!

1 month is more than enough. Get Barrons ACT 36, and use it to supplement your practicing.

Thanks, y’all! I think I just need the confidence to put my nose to the grindstone and rock the math! I WILL get at LEAST a 31! = P
