Can I include recommendations from a 10th grade teacher from my old school?

Hi everyone. Thanks in advance for helping me out  Background: I lived in the US for freshman and sophomore year and then in Canada for junior and now senior year.
For teacher recommendations, I was thinking of having one teacher from the US write one and one from Canada. I have a couple teachers in the US that know me pretty well and have said they are willing to write a rec should I need it. I know people say you should generally only have recs from junior/senior year. I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts/advice. Also, would it look worse if I only had one recommendation from my new school (Canada)? Thanks

I’ve written tons of letters for kids I taught as sophomores. (Our rec letters are due at the end of Junior year.)

It’s never been a problem.

Some olleges will make mention that they prefer to see a recommendation from the teachers who have seen your work and instructed you in the final two years of your HS career, as it is closer to a true gauge of the student’s most recent work and performance. I haven’t seen wording which expressly prohibits the 10th grade teacher rec, though.

Where there is such wording, I would take that as an effort to discourage rather than to reject the acceptance of the 10th grade teacher rec.

That being said, one of my kids used a 10th grade rec almost exclusively for one subject area recommendation, though there were two recs total submitted with the application. As we know, this did not stand in the way of positive reviews and outcomes.
