Can I just PAY my way in to Harvard?

Yeah right. If you don't have the stats to get into Harvard or you're not black or some other minority, then just go to another institution and consider transferring later.

yeah moose ur wrong... u as well as other people would love to think that money doesnt mean much , but donating even a million dollars would guarantee u a spot.

either the person "you know" doesnt exist, or he did something terrrrribly wrong where he deserved to get rejected.

,oose is out to lunch. Was the kid convicted of something? The rule of thumb my parents, who interview for an ivy were told, is that 7 figure givers are in if the kid can make it through. They don't make it a secret. To keep giving all the financial aid they do and keep the endowment high, they must attract a certain number of rich donors.

well im just saying thats what happened im not asking for u guys to believe me

logisticswizard, haha that was hillarious. Good Idea! jk about the last part.

haha.. reminds me of Blair in 'Gossip Girls'...

"maybe he can sleep with the dean himself"

ahahaha... unless the dean is a holy or chaste man...

i love those books!!! lol

What is the point of buying your way in... if you are not accepted then it would probably mean you will not be able to cope with the curriculum (except rare cases like myself). If you are rich enough to buy your way in, why dont you juz quit school, buy a playboy mansion, and live a happy life :D

^i dont know. u tell me.

Ask George Bush.

Wow, you really have it out for under-represented minority students dont ya?

Oh yea, that $180K will set you up for life. Skip college and take an around the world cruise with the money.

Mt mother has a good grip on this. She'll tell you she has associates who resent paying top dollars for college, send their kids to State schoools, drive top of the line Beemers ,go to Europe twice a year eating thousand dollar meals at top restaurants, carry $5K handbags and dress to the hilt in multi thousand outfits.

It just comes down to priorities. As my dad says, it's an investent. The returns are hopefully way bigger with you, getting a great education and the chance to be what you really want to be.

Do you even need to go to college if you have a couple of hundred million dollars?

I wouldn't!

I'd buy Pizza Hut, and .... :D

that doesnt necessarily get him in. i kno someone who was a national merit comended or whatever, had 2300+ SAT, decent GPA, double legacy at UPenn, and his parents had donated millions of dollars to actually have a building built, its named after them...this person got REJECTED...so clearly money doesnt mean that much

You're using a single example. In the big scope of things, having money to give has empirically made a difference.

Maybe if you are a Kennedy or Rockfeller.

:) I happen to know Rockefeller's youngest son, he goes to my school, it's da bomb.

Who cares? If you had 50 mil to throw around you wouldn't even need to go to college.

$180k will probably not buy your way into Harvard. It will probably take an amount in the 7 digits. So if you have a couple million why not invest it and buy yourself a mansion and you're set for life?

Unless you have a family reputation to keep alive...
Who cares about Harvard when you have 7-8 digits of cash?

no joke... id just buy myself into some business school, it doesnt have to be wharton or harvard, and id take my families money and invest smart. i know numerous millionaires that didnt go to college, and have fared well.

I'd donate all my money to Stern 'cause it RULES.

Hm... Howard Stern? Or NYU Stern?

I'd guess NYU Stern cause Howard isn't an "it"
