Can I pick which Cal Grant I want?

So these are my current cal grant statuses:
Cal Grant A: Qualified - Not Awarded

Cal Grant B: Awarded - On Hold

Cal Grant C: Not Awarded
Since my family income is less than 20k, I qualified for Cal Grant A and B, but I was only awarded B. It says B is more beneficial for me, but I plan to go to a UC, so wouldn’t A be more beneficial? Do I contact the admissions office after I get my acceptance letters to correct this?

You don’t correct it, the FAA meets with you to discuss it and then recommends a change. The Calgrant office (California Student Aid Commission) has its own website that you can access for these types of questions:
https://www.csac.ca.gov/post/why-am-i-only-getting-cal-grant-b-even-though-i-qualify-cal-grant

When would I contact the FAA?

Did you look at the link? Did you read through to the end of the link?

Yeah. It says if it’s better to switch grants, you should contact the FAA. It doesn’t say when.

Your financial aid administrator is the person, at the school, where you’ve been admitted, who has received your info from the CSAC.
You haven’t been admitted yet, correct?

This is moot until you get in.

Also, depending on where you have applied (UCs), some universities make up your funding via their own monies. The CSAC is very familiar with the funding of the UC’s.

If you applied to colleges, away from home, you do realize that you need to pay for your housing, all 4 years, if you only have a CalGrant A?
With the B, you don’t get the tuition paid, the first year, but subsequent years you get tuition and the stipend.
Grant Type Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior Total Award

A. Tuition $12,570 $12,570 $12,570 $12,570 $50,280

B- Tuition $1,672 $1,672+$12,570 $1,672+$12,570 $1,672+$12,570 $44,398

Cal grants have limited dollars. Depending on your grades and finalized taxes, you won’t know anything until you receive your financial aid package, in the Spring, which includes funding from:

**Federal/b
**State /b
**University /b
sources.
