I am new here and looking for some ideas on a nice University.

Location: Preferably in or very close to a city. But partial to cities like Boston,Chicago,New York,San Francisco,Seattle,LA....even Montreal etc.....I will say, nothing in the deep south, nothing in the mid-west except chicago. I am from MA, so that explains a lot.

Campus: Not huge, but a nice campus helps. A nice area of a city is important.

Size- Medium-Large

Programs: Not sure exactly what I want to do. Looking for Strong, Well Known Engineering, Physics,CompSci, Economics, maybe Anthropology and hopefully Science-Technology/Society.......For Career looking at Engineer or Lawyer.

Other Stuff: Maybe a nice music scene and generally a lot of things to do on and around campus. I don't care about sports or anything. ,.

Nothing to competative either, Ivies Leagues aren't going to happen.
Any other question on what I am looking for are gladly welcome.

The most important factor is what your family can afford which you don’t mention. If CC teaches anything, the lesson should be to prepare the list using financial criteria as the most important factor.

Well My parents and myself agree cost is not the deciding factor on where to apply for me.
Cost will only be factor in if I if I am accepted into College A and College B and like both equally…etc.

Northwestern would be good, but it’s Ivy-tough to get into. U of Toronto and McGill would be good. U of Southern California, U of Santa Clara, U of Washington, Boston University, Villanova.

A list of “every-man’s” colleges that fit what you want:

DePaul
UM-Twin Cities
U San Francisco
UI-Chicago
University of Pittsburgh
UW-Madison (yes, it’s a sweet town. Very selective, though, so not really an “everyman’s college”.)
UW-Seattle
U of Puget Sound
Fordham
Northeastern
Syracuse
Temple
U of Maryland- Baltimore County
American U
Catholic U of America
George Mason U
Dusquense U
Hofstra U
SUNY-Buffalo
U Toronto
McMaster U of Canada
UCali-San Diego
NYU-Poly
Seton Hall U
Stevens Institute of Tech.
Manhattanville college
U Conn
U of RI

…and I’m sure there’s more (just going by memory here, so definitely not a complete list). Any way you could narrow it down?

Look at the SUNY’s: They’re all close to or in decent sized cities,

SUNY Buffalo-good engineering
SUNY Albany-good Polysci and, if you’re remotely interested in nanotechnology (nanoscale engineering will be a major) it’s #1 in the world
SUNY Binghamton-good all around programs
SUNY Stony Brook-like Buffalo, good engineering
