The majority of schools I am applying to say you can send either the ACT or SAT plus 2 SAT II’s. My ACT is higher so I’ve sent that. However, my SAT is higher only on the math section. Can I send the SAT to these colleges as well? or will I be required to send in subject tests even though I’ve already submitted the ACT? I scored really low on my subject tests so I wanted to avoid sending those. Any answers would be helpful! Thanks!
Unless a school requires all testing (in which case, you have to send everything), you can send in the minimum a school requires, or whatever you want over and above.
So if you submit the ACT, you can choose to send in SAT if you want. You can send in Subject tests without the Reasoning Tests, if you want.
You should be able to select which tests you send in. Since the subject tests were taken at a different sitting, they probably qualify as “different” exams.
If I am reading your post correctly, the colleges you are asking about are ones that require SAT IIs with SAT but you can, alternatively to both of those, submit the ACT. Those colleges are, and I assume yours are included in: Amherst, Barnard, Brown, Columbia, Duke, Haverford, Pomona, Rice, Swarthmore, Tufts, Penn, Vassar, Wellesley, and Yale, and also McGill from Canada. If that is the case, then submitting ACT and SAT will result, at all but one of those, in your SAT being ignored and only your ACT being used to determine admission. Those colleges use the SAT for admission only if you also submit the subject tests. The exception is Swarthmore which will also consider together the SAT and the ACT with or without writing. Also, if you are referring to Penn, you have no option because you are separately required to submit all tests you have actually taken, ACT, SAT, and subject tests. Also, if you submit any SAT or subject test to Yale, you must submit both all SATs and all subject tests.
