Can I skip a year?

Hi,

I was wondering whether I would be able to skip a year at Princeton, or any other prestigious school.

By the end of my senior year I would have done : AP US History, AP English Composition, AP Comsci, AP BC, AP Stat, AP Physics E/M, AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Environmental Science, AP Goverment, and AP Micro + Macro. My non-AP courses include Multivariable Calculus + Linear Algebra, and Complex Analysis and Differential Equations (all the high math courses were co-enorlled in at a local college)

Is this enough credits to skip a year?

WHy would you possibly want to skip a year??? In a hurry much??

I will also probably have enough credits for advanced standing, but I doubt I will want to actually use them…

[AP Credit Overview - Advanced Placement and Advanced Standing](Advanced Placement Class of 2027 | Office of the Dean of the College)

Skipping a year is an option if one has enough AP credits, meets the other requirements, and for some reason doesn’t want to take full advantage of the prospect of four years at Princeton.

AP credits don’t let you skip a year. You must attend 8 semesters as an enrolled student and to be an enrolled student, you must take at least three courses. AP courses merely let you exempt out of certain prerequisites and distribution requirements such as language. Even if you go abroad, you are still technically an enrolled student at Princeton as long as Princeton approves of the abroad prpogram. So, no, you can’t graduate after three years with a boat-load of AP credits. MOST princeton students have a boat-load of AP credits.

^ Wrong. Read the link in post #3 to see that graduating in three years is possible.

I stand corrected. My child was told this AFTER freshman year when the cutoff has already passed and was then told the 8 semester requirement. But you must LEAVE to get it…you take time off… so you cannot graduate in 3/3.5 consecutive years. And you must lay out your plans in your freshman year. Remember, for all AB candidates, you must still do a JP and thesis. That’s why the time off is designated in the sophomore year.

Can a bunch of AP credits allow you to take one less class or so per year (such as 8 vs 9 for Engineering)?

No. The policy is spelled out here [Princeton University | Advanced Placement Credits](http://www.princeton.edu/admission/applyingforadmission/preparation/advanced_placement/)

you can definitely graduate in 3 years with enough AP credits and determination. and sherpa, people have good reasons for doing so, and unlike what you may think, it’s not the end of the world to have spent “just” 3 years at Princeton.
