Can I still get into a top tier school with two A-'s

Question: I got two A- one for AP World in both 9th and 10th grade(this was just half the year cause of COVID) and my GPA is around a 96.5. Do I still have a chance of getting into a top-tier school like MIT, Harvard, etc. I am also Asian, I don’t know if that changes anything. I am definitely not at the top of my class, but our school does not rank.

Don’t worry about it. If you only received two grades in the A- category you’re looking great. Obviously though for schools such as MIT and Harvard grades only matter a small, small amount. A few years ago Harvard rejected 80% of valedictorians. If you want to get into these schools, you’ll need strong hooks or a spike (i.e USAMO, published research, stem camps…). Your grades are perfectly fine for top tier schools, but you need to make sure you have the other stuff.

I looked at your other posts I would say you have very good odds for a top 10 school

Really?

Yes, you have a chance at a top tier school with two A- grades. Please understand that the tippy tops won’t care too much about that. At the most competitive schools, grades are not what gets you in, because everyone has outstanding grades. Other factors matter much more.

Yes. You can still get into a top tier school with two A minuses. Don’t look back. Look forward. You are not proceeding with a handicap in building your high school record.

If you get rejected, the A- will not be the reason.

And conversely, a 4.0 is not guarantee of getting in a top-20 school.
