Hi! I specifically said "Harvard" but it really does apply to any ivy league schools.

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I took Geometry as a freshman, when I could take it in 8th grade. My middle school counselor messed my schedule up so I ended up taking Algebra 1 in my eighth grade. It's when I first came to America as well, so situations were pretty hectic and I had no time to pay attention to my math class. I really regret not fixing my schedule. All the "smart" kids who are planning on getting into top 20 colleges took Algebra 2 or PreCalculus as freshmen, and I am worrying if that's a standard for top colleges. Do you think my chances of getting admitted decreased while I was being held back in math one year? just a reminder, I'm Asian and I think math standard for Asians are considered to be high.

Just as a note, I have no hard time getting A's in honors math classes.

There’s some statistics on it. This year, Harvard admitted exactly 12 students who took Geometry as freshman-- So it’s certainly not impossible.

The Harvard 2014 Statistics page indicates that there were 10 students admitted who took Geometry as freshmen, not 12. Check your facts before ■■■■■■■■ on these threads.

^They’re effing with you, buddy. The point is that you need to chill out. One class decision made in 8th grade is not going to affect your admissions chances to Harvard in any meaningful way. And besides, even if it were, there’s nothing you can do about it now right?

It’s nothing to be too worried about. If it’s bugging you, you can take a math class at your local community college. It would count as a high school and a college credit and is a good way to show admission officers that you are ready for college courses.
