The short version is that she is the USNA’s on site representative. She is the one that ensures that the resume matches the candidate. That you are serious about the USNA. It’s her job to interview you, answer your’s and your parents questions and eventually evaluate you. Her recommendation to the USNA is extremely important. There is a saying about B&G Officers (and MALO & ALOs) and it goes something like this:
“She can keep you out of the USNA, but she can’t get you in”. Her recommendation while hugely important will not assure you of an Appointment. But a negative evaluation will almost certainly keep you from receiving one.

Now relax. Try to make sure to read up on as much stuff as you can about the USNA so that you seem knowledgeable and well informed about your decision. Get a haircut. Wear nice clothes if you have them. If not, make sure what you wear is clean and neat. Prepare a few questions to ask her. She is not your enemy. She will understand that you are 17/18 and VERY nervous. Just don’t lie or try to BS her.

Good luck!

Perhaps I didn’t explain the Presidential Nomination well enough.
http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Steps-for-Admission/Nomination-Sources/The-President-of-the-US.php
Note the following: “One hundred candidates may be appointed with these nominations each year.”
That’s 100 from across the US and whatever territories are included. Basically 2 per state. Not sure that “tremendously” increased your chances. Increased…YES. Tremendously…I don’t think so.
Let me strongly suggest that you apply for a nomination with EVERY possible source available to you. That includes your US Representative for your district, both Florida US Senators, the Vice President and the Presidential nominations. Then HOPE you get at least one. There are people that subscribe to the theory that it is harder to get a nomination in some states than it is to get accepted by the USNA. You need both.

Thank you I will apply to all those available and pray I get a nomination

Another thing I should mention is I don’t turn 17 until the last day of my junior year. What are all the steps in order I can take this junior year being that I won’t be 17 until this junior year is over?

Your age will not change the application/nomination process. My son didn’t turn 17 until June of his Junior year. All the steps are outlined on the website. Don’t forget to apply for NASS (Naval Academy Summer Seminar).
