Hi all,
In the past, I looked at Harvard’s website and it looked like they encouraged creative writing supplements. Now, however, it appears as though they only want academic work, visual and performing arts. Does anyone know if creative writing would be an accepted supplement for the class of 2020 admissions?
Maybe in the past Harvard received too many creative writing supplements that were not of outstanding quality, so they reconsidered encouraging them.
FWIW: My general advice prior to knowing they eliminated creative writing supplements was student’s should NOT submit one unless their creative writing piece has won a top prize in a national contest, such as this one: http://teacher.scholastic.com/writeit/fiction/publish/competition.htm. That would still be my suggestion. If you won the $10,000, $5,000 or $1,000 prize from Scholastic (or some similar national contest), then go ahead and submit your creative writing samples, otherwise just submit an additional essay.
@gibby thank you so much for your response! I was partly just confirming that I wasn’t crazy and that there did appear to be a change in policy.
