Hi. Im majoring in information management right now at dutchess community college. My GPA is a 3.8 as of now. Plan to transfer next fall.
I would like to know if i can transfer to stony brook and do there information systems program. There aren’t many colleges that have a information management bachelor degree in NY. Stony brook has a information systems program so i am unsure if i will be able to do there I.S program. Since my major isn’t I.S
Thanks for the help.
I don’t see any problem with this at all. I would expect them to look at the courses that you have taken and see if you have decent grades in appropriate required courses, but this somewhat subtle change in the name of your major shouldn’t concern anyone.
I had the same issue when transferring to USC. I wanted to major in linguistics, but very few community colleges even offer linguistics courses let alone a degree program. I was able to switch to computational linguistics after I had transferred. The only time this could be an issue is if the major is “impacted” in which they would want you to prove yourself worthy of being admitted to the major. Your program does sound quite similar though, so I would hope that isn’t the case.
