I'm currently enrolled in a SUNY community college (for the past 2 years) and wanted to transfer to Stony Brook (or Binghamton, Buffalo) for Spring '09. I'll be completing my associates degree this fall, so I'll be transferring with 68 credits completed.

I messed up pretty bad my first semester at the community college, unfortunately landing in academic probation, but have since picked up my grades significantly.

My current GPA is 3.057, and I'm retaking a class during the fall semester that I failed my first semester, so my GPA will probably jump a point or two.

I'm wondering what my chances are of being accepted as a transfer? My major is computer science, if that helps.

Does transferring from a SUNY community college help me at all? Will I be able to get in? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I just really need to know if I'm applying to schools within my reach.

Thought I responded; I typed out an answer this morning, but apparently it didn't take.

Anyway...

It looks like you should be okay for admission to the university -- typically a 3.0 is the minimum -- but as far as Computer Science goes, the department makes those decisions. (It's really the only major like that on campus; every other major we admit transfers directly through the Admissions office.)

So the short answer is yes, it seems like you're admissible.

I applied the day I read your response, SBUAdmissions. I was wondering when the decisions are being made though? When I called to ask if my application and transcript was recieved, they said November, when I called today to double check- they said within two weeks. Which one is it? November or within two weeks?
