I just finished applying to Cornell as a First-year student but realized I applied to the wrong school. I applied to Arts and Science but wanted to apply to the SC Johnson College of Business (Dyson School). Also, CAS requires subject tests but I didn’t take any so I don’t even meet the requirements for the school. I know this was a really stupid mistake but I was wondering if it’s fixable? Thank you for the responses in advance!
Contact admissions directly.
They’re closed for winter break so I was hoping I could gain some insight here but I guess not. Thanks anyways!
You are just going to have to wait until Wednesday to call.
Not easy for Cornell as each school reads their own applications. Even if they permit you to do so, your application will have to hand over to Johnson, which has its own essay prompts. Johnson has much lower acceptance rate. The late change is surely not a good way to show you love to Johnson.
I read an article recently that Dyson is the hardest business school (based on numbers) to get into in the country. Probably because it’s one of the smallest, as I can’t imagine it’s better than Wharton.
Additionally, each school has their own supplemental essay. Did you write your supplemental essay for Johnson or for Arts and Sciences? If you wrote it for Arts and Sciences you may need to write this one off altogether, or see if it isn’t too late to take the Subject tests!
Also can consider, just take your freshman required courses in CAS, and find out the transfer requirements to get into Dyson. Transferring once you are there is feasible though risky. You have to “make progress” on your own college’s requirements but take some electives in the other college and get good grades to show you belong there. Some kids have been suspended after failed attempts, falling behind on their original major, not making it into their desired new college. Way better to start in the right college but possible to switch later.
Note you can always declare Econ as your major and try to switch for Soph year.
Not the same, but at least you’ll take some relevant courses in CAS.
@kygoat I did the same thing. I want to switch the school I applied for but I’m not sure what to do considering the supplemental questions are different. If you contacted them, can you let me know how they responded? Thanks!
@agustinaotero hey, sorry I just saw your comment. I called and they said that it’s impossible to switch schools but they’ll still review my application. If accepted, it may be possible to switch but “no guarantees.”
