I'm really lucky that my school only expects my family to pay our EFC but it would help my parents a lot just to take out the Stafford loans available to me at least my freshman year. My school didn't mention anything about Stafford loans in the F.A. award but did say that i will receive 5,000 in Johns Hopkins loans total during the my last three years of college.

I was asked a similar question by a friend. EFC is 15K at all 3 schools being considered. Two of the schools have included a combination of stafford loans, the third only a college grant. Can they apply for a Stafford for the third school and cover with that part of the EFC? Does the application go through the school or the fed gov/banks? The question is being asked because the student has received $6k in outside scholarships so if the choice is school #3, all the money will go towards reducing the college grant, right? That school makes the reduction in the following order -Stafford subsidized-Perkins-Work study
