I am 99% going to attend the UofM this upcoming fall and I live not too far. Could I drive to the school and try out the dorm food? I know there are college meal plans and stuff but could I just go to one of the dining halls and pay in cash?? I just wanna see what college food is like :)

Sign up for one of the Campus Days.

You can also call the admissions office and ask if you can come visit and eat at a dorm cafeteria. However… wherever you eat might not be the dorm you end up living in. You can eat at other dorms, but it is most convenient to eat where you live. But… do NOT pick a college based on the food, unless you have something like a severe food allergy that you have to deal with. I can’t imagine someone turning down Michigan because they weren’t thrilled with the dorm food. Plus, most students don’t live in dorms all four years, you likely will have some other food arrangement at least half the years you are there (apartment, co-op, fraternity, etc.).

Thanks for the answers! I wouldn’t turn down Michigan based on the food

If you know a friend who lives in a dorm/has a meal plan, he/she can just swipe you in.

I think you can pay in cash but it isn’t worth whatever amount they charge.
