Can I turn things around?

I am in my 2nd year of high school and a second semester sophomore. I did bad freshman and first semester of sophomore year. My cumulative is a 2.8 but now I have a tutor and am doing really well in all of my classes. I'm putting in extra effort and everything.
The classes I'm taking are Spanish 3, audition choir, world core, chemistry honors, and math analysis. I know my gpa is horrible right now but if I work at it and get it up ( I really think I can) and do well on the sats, do I have a shot at any elite school? ( any good ucs, any private school etc) or am I hopeless and should I give up on my dream schools. I am a California resident, and I have really good ecs and will be an officer in 2 clubs ( maybe 3) and the president in another.what can I do at this point and do you think I will be accepted to any good schools?

Define good schools. CC standards or human standards?

Lucky for you most colleges ignore/barely look at freshman year grades. With an upward trend you should be fine. Will it be a 4.0? No. Could it be >3.5? Yes.

Good schools as in ucb, ucsd, ucsb, Purdue, such. Not looking into getting into Harvard or anything.

UCs don’t consider freshman grades, so as long as you get straight As from here on out (and do well on your SAT or ACT) it’s possible. Also, try taking some APs next year to boost your UC GPA. Don’t know anything about Purdue, sorry.

Colleges will understand. Study, try your best, and the cards will fall where they are meant to.

ucsd, ucsb, Purdue

There is a very good chance if you turn it around

Thank you all so much, you have given me motivation to work harder for an achievable goal.
