Can I uhhh

know what happened to my "Visit On Friday" thread where About Time was pwning 02?

admins said delete

Verbal violations?

that's too bad. The discussion was heated, but it was at least some good, solid rants from About Time.

Every forum needs its 100% certifiably bonkers member. How is she going to do her job when she can't even make her threads stick? Go on a 5-state killing spree? That takes TIME, and EFFORT! Much easier to just mercilessly persecute a poster on an online message board.

Bboy Twizzy which college did u decide to go to next year?

Is it just me, or have you guys also noticed that we're the most controversial board?

its fun when i really dont feel like studying for finals anymore

I don't go around reading the Penn board or the Harvard board or whatever, so I have no idea if we're controversial or not.

I ain't JohnnyK. :P

I think he said something pretty unimpressive, like Rutgers. The fact that he's calling Columbia every day to find out about the waitlist yet didn't apply to any schools better than Rutgers is a bit troublesome.

Is Rutgers unimpressive in your opinion? It's not easy to get in and let's not forget the sometimes arbitrary nature of admissions.

Actually, yes. Someone who is serious about engineering and has SEAS as his dream school would likely consider slightly less selective schools that still have solid engineering programs. Perhaps schools like RPI, Harvey Mudd, USC, Wash U, etc.

While I wouldn't call Rutgers unimpressive, as it has much to offer (pretty good school with huge financial benefits for NJ students, as Bboy is), it is a little absurd to be banking so heavily on a SEAS admittance in this particular situation.

"let's not forget the sometimes arbitrary nature of admissions."
..as in how Rutgers accepted some Princeton rejects this year.

Well we have to agree to disagree then. It's not Ivy material, but still pretty impressive. I don't know the median stats of Rutger admitees, but it's probably still pretty good. Unimpressive would be something like OSU...

Rutgers has an admit rate of 53% with median SAT scores of 1460-1790 (990-1210 on the old scale) ....this is clearly not in the same league as columbia and to think that you have a good shot at columbia after having rutgers as the best school that accepted you is somewhat absurd

I would not list Rutgers as unimpressive and like people said before it is a big school that has a lot to offer. You can get a good job with a degree from here and be very successful. As for applying to Columbia and not having back up plan and trying to get into Rutgers very late is unimpressive.

It largely depends on the campus. Rutgers New Brunswick is noticeably larger (26k enrollment as opposed to Newark's 6k and Camden's 4k), yet its admit rate is not accordingly looser (I believe a 5% difference between New Brunswick and Newark). New Brunswick's SAT averages are also the highest of the three campuses.

Wow. I was pretty busy with school and music for a bit and I come back...my magic bean has sprouted into death already. Uh hmmm...well of course I realize how dumb it was to only apply to Princeton Columbia and Rutgers now. I wasnt one of those Ivy or bust kids, I honestly didnt even know Columbia was an Ivy (no offense). I applied to Princeton cuz my boy from '06 got in with similar stats to mine (showing the increasing competition). I probably wouldve gotten into somewhere around NYU, looking at stats and races from ppl in my school who did. But yes, I put my deposit for Rutgers Honors Engineering, 02. Really dont think it matters too much where you go, especially when you're a versatile (what was it, URM?). Sorry for takin so long Shraf.

I think you're missing the point. You're not relegated to a life of pandhandling if you go to Rutgers. Plenty of people who go to all sorts of less-than-impressive colleges get good jobs, lead successful lives, etc. However, Rutgers isn't going to impress people and isn't going to open doors for you that even a school slightly worse than Columbia would open.

If you don't think it matters too much where you go, why do you think your college selection was dumb and why did you take a day off from school to hand-deliver a letter to the Columbia adcoms? I think you do realize that school matters.

Not in the sense that any degree is too much different. I'd simply like to A. not be in the middle of nowhere B. be close to home C. Be close to my gf and D. Be around people like me. All of those contribute to my limited number of applications being dumb, and none of those have to do with what degree I have. You assume way too much. Please don't start this again.
