<p>Is it possible to use abbreviations in the Activities Section of Common App? The space is very limited, and some of the activities have names which are just too long (for instance, writing Intel ISEF instead of Intel International Science and Engineering Fair)? As it is, I can't squeeze much details into the section, and I would very much prefer to use abbreviations if that is possible. </p>
<p>You should go under the assumption that the person reading your application has no idea what your ECs are. So an abbreviation for most ECs would not be wise. But Intel since its more prominent is fine.</p>
<p>As long as the adcom will understand what you mean, abbreviations are fine. For example, I stage manage, but had to abbreviate “manager” as “mgr.” once. That’s fine. If you were to, say, abbreviate Intel ISEF as IISEF, that wouldn’t be advisable because there aren’t any hints about what that is.</p>
