can mining engineer do petroleum?

<p>can a mining engineer get hired with a petroleum company? are mining engineers limited if they get hired on what they can do?</p>

<p>I have to decide what major to choose. my school offers them as separate degrees, so they won't let me take mining with classes in petroleum. should i look at geotechnical engineering then to offer an option to do both?</p>
