My brother is currently a criminal justice major at Stephen F Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. His aspiration is to become a canine officer when he graduates, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't need a college degree for that because there's an Academy. Could the degree help with future career goals like to becoming a detective or an FBI or CIA agent? He doesn't speak any foreign languages and has little to no interest in joining the military. I love the guy, but I would like assurance that I'm not going have to pay for his kids tuition in the next 30 years. Advice please?

You do not need a bachelors degree for most jurisdictions to become a police officer or detective on behalf of the county/city. However, it will look much better when you apply for the position that you have a bachelors in the field. It will likewise give you more options when you move up the ranks over the years because certain positions will require a bachelors and or masters degree.

The FBI and CIA both require bachelors for entry level positions, but they are much tougher to get into as a first time job after you graduate.

Just a note… the FBI prefers degrees in Accounting, Computer Science, Languages, and Law. A Criminal Justice degree will not meet these degree requirements.
