I know it is a little late in asking this , but can a Tufts student from Illinois vote in the general election? what would be required and where wd they go?

If you have previously registered to vote in your home town, contact your home town Registrar of Voters and have them send you an absentee ballot at Tufts. Then you can still vote in your hometown and general elections next time.

You can definitely register to vote locally. I would imagine there are student groups that can help. I grew up about a 25 minute drive from campus so I would typically just go home and vote in my parents’ district

You generally have the choice as a college student to either vote absentee in your home location or where you live go go to school. For a given election you can only do one or the other (against the law to vote in both places in the same election). The registration rules and what is required to vote varies quite a bit from state to state, so you have to find out what the rules are for each place. Some places allow you to register on the day you vote. Some require certain types of ID that students may not have if they didn’t plan ahead and apply for them, etc. Getting registered in your home state and getting an absentee ballot takes some lead time and planning as well.

My kids always voted absentee from our home district.
