I am a new international student at PSU and interested in working in investment bank
However, PSU is not elite school and since i am a foreigner which would make me not competitive to get a job after undergrad if i major in business.
And i think that a business undergrad not from a elite school (rank top 15 in us) does not worth coming to US.
But, PSU has a good reputation in engineering field, and i am quite interested in computer engineering and industrial engineering. And i have heard that business schools prefer those who take a lot math-focus classes which I believe any engineering major would includes.
Is this a good plan? or it is not possible to do a mba or some sorts related to business if one is not majoring in business in college?
AND IF MY THOUGHTS ARE INCORRECT, PLEASE TELL ME.
I also get a back up plan. I have heard that actuary is quite popular in terms of payment and getting jobs.
So how about major in risk management and take this as option, would i get a job?
THX GUYS
Well, it depends on where you want to get a job. Are you going back to your country?
Most good MBA programs require at least a couple of years of work experience.
Well i want to get a job in US
If I work as an engineer for a few years, can i apply for MBA PROGRAMS?
First, it’s not easy for an international student to get a job in the U.S. after graduating, even for engineers. So don’t COUNT on staying here. But yes, you can apply for MBA programs with a few years on the job. Just remember, those are very expensive studies, especially at the top schools you should be aiming for if you want to go into investment banking. And there is no financial aid.
Agree with Katliamom.^^^^^^^^
You need to plan on returning to your country for jobs because there are no guarantees that you will be hired by an American company.
Getting a job in the US is difficult because employers have to assure the government that there are no citizens or permanent residents that are available for the same job. Immigration laws have become stricter and tougher for non-residents, with the primary goal of employing US citizens and GC holders.
