ACT SparkNotes Test Prep: Strategies for the Reading Test

Sparknotes is really good for Reading.

I don't know what your strategy is for reading, but just read the passage and then answer the questions. It should take you about 3 1/2-4 minutes to read a passage. If you do this, you will do well.

Now, I need help with Science (23 both times I've taken official ACT). WTH do I do? I've taken PR's two practice tests and I've done absolutely terrible.

I don't know how to improve. I've read PR's stuff and Sparknotes..but it hasn't helped me.

To XiΞiX: I've scored the same range as you did in Reading(but I'm good with humanities and science) but these days, I think I improved. The main thing is that you have to constantly read. Maybe if you spend 2 or 3 hours reading everyday, your Reading might show improvement by the test day, especially if you read science articles(I subscribe to PopSci and PC Mag and maybe it's because I like reading science, although your Science score seem to indicate that you are good at science). Scribbling also helps just so that you stay focused in Reading(yeah I always get out of focus during the passages).

Another thing I learned is to keep up with time. I always had a whole passage unread because I didn't have the time and I went straight to the questions. That's why Reading a lot before the test day helps, especially with your speed and timing.

To leftwichqb7: Straight to the questions and then try to interpret the table and graphs. If that doesn't work, try reading a little bit of passage first(like the first couple of sentences) then go to the questions. Other than that, maybe you should try a different way to practice for the science section. What I did was do each section of Science timed and then after answering, check the answers. Pinpoint your weakness, like what kind of questions you are not good at and which sections(out of the seven) you have weakness in. Maybe you are not good at the fighting scientists one, or the one that has the big graph. Either way, find your weakness.
