I am interested in both energy and the environment. I really want to do engineering and have been considering either petroleum or aerospace up until this point. I've read a very basic summary of what environmental engineers do. It sounds pretty cool. So what I would like to know is: What do environmental engineers do? What do they primarily study in college? What are salaries and employment outlook like? Would you suggest going in to it? Thanks I appreciate the responses!

I am a 3rd year petroleum engineer and i often think about switching majors to environmental engineering.

at my school (University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada) its a branch of civil engineering. They learn about how traffic and road affect the environment, about the different type of pavement and cement structures to build roads and waste water treatment facilities. they learn about how to maintain and run a waste water treatment facility. about bacteria and microbes, soil science, they learn about dams and channels to route water, air pollution, petroleum and mine pollution, land reclamation (for when a building is torn down or a mine is done, how to restore the land to its natural state), environmental law, risk assessment, and general business skills.
