Can someone chance me? I'm getting nervous

Accepted: UCSC
Rejected: UCSB, UCLA, UCI

So I’m getting really nervous about UCD; I feel like if I didn’t get into UCI, then I won’t have a chance at Davis.

GPA
unweighted: 3.86
Weighted: 3.55

class rank: top 15 percent

I know my GPA is a little low, but here goes.

Freshman year
1st semester: 3.83
2nd semester: 4.0

Sophomore year
1st semester:4.0
2nd semester:4.17 ( I actually got a 4.5 for the fourth quarter! :D)

Junior year
1st semester: 3.5
2nd semester: 3.67

Junior year is where I fell. I was going through some hard times during the entire school year…mainly in that I was battling depression . I didn’t put this on my application because…well it’s sort of embarrassing.

SATs
1810
Spanish subject: 650
US History:550

EC and awards
I couldn’t play sports because I have a heart condition, but again, I didn’t put this on my application because I thought it would negatively affect my chances.

Puma peer for 3 years
peer tutor (tutoring for all classes and for any student that needed help) 3 years
I have some work experience (mostly worked during the summer)
10th grade Sonoma County Science Fair winner (placed 2nd with the opportunity to advance to the San Francisco Science Fair)
Boy’s State nominee (honestly, this was a great honor. The top students in my class were chosen to go to boy’s state, and I was one of them)
over 300 hours of community service at my church over a period of 4 years

Also, I go to a California Distinguished School. It’s full a very smart people. Very good school. Very competitive, even Academic classes are pretty rigorous.

AP classes
English lang (11th grade)
English lit (12th grade)
Spanish lang (12th grade)

Took 4 honors classes, all during soph. year including Biology, English, World History, and Spanish 2

Please settle my nerves!

How are you getting a wighted 3.55 GPA when your unweighted is 3.86 o_o Assuming you mean your weighted GPA is 3.86 and your other stats are as you’ve reported, I think you have a small chance of getting on the waitlist. Overall, I think you’re GPA and SAT’s are your weakness. They’re a bit low for the mid tier UC’s so the rejections to SB and UCI might be an indicator for Davis. Also, the dip in GPA in your Junior year and the lack of AP classes will hurt you. Your strength seems to be your EC’s so I hope you’ve discussed them thoroughly in the personal statements.

Just a note, you probably should have discussed some of those “embarrassing” things on in your personal statements. Some schools actually do read them believe or not and it could have helped you. Anyway, this is just my opinion. It doesn’t really mean anything but its honest and some feedback at least. Good luck and congratulations on UCSC also.

Edit: Unweighted: 3.55
Weighted: 3.86

Good catch. And thanks for replying.

davis has been harder then sb to get into. My guess is slim chance. SC is a good school. Look at the positives in life and move past the declines.

I think Santa Cruz is a great school if they have the major you want. My son’s major is Mechanical Engineering, ans SC does not have that. A neighbor friend was accepted to SC too… and Irvine… but is waiting on Davis now. She really doesn’t want to go to school at Irvine… Davis is her first pick… but I think SC is a fine college. Right on the beach!

I also think they take into account the schools proximity to your home. Each UC gives an advantage to applicants in their district… to what extent, I don’t know. So, here’s hoping you live in Northern CA.

Good luck to you.
