I’m a sophmore commuter student at a 4-year university. There aren’t many scholarships here, but I receive a large Pell Grant every year. I still have plenty of loans, however. There are some things that I do not like about this school, but because it isn’t highly prestigious, I still end up being one of the top students in every class I take. I’m offered positions, both paid ones for peer mentoring and unpaid ones in research. The schools I applied to (UNC included, obviously) are known for their financial aid and competitive environments. It would be great for me to live on campus at a school, but I don’t want the debt that I would incur if I lived on campus at my current institution. I don’t have the option to join many clubs or research until 12am currently as I can’t drive and rely on public transportation to get home everyday (I live about 20 miles away, commuting takes about 2.5 hours round-trip, busses run until 7pm) I’m just worried that I won’t get to research if I transfer, or that my research won’t be as interesting. Also, starting over in a new lab and only working in it for 4 semesters may weaken any grad school recommendations. I’m on track to graduate in 8 semesters at all of the schools I applied to, as long as their transfer equivalencies are somewhat accurate. I can handle overload semesters and summer classes if I need to. Thanks for any input.
You haven’t really asked a clear question. It would help if you listed the various colleges you’re applying to and the one you’re currently going to
I really want to know if transferring is worthwhile. I go to UNC Charlotte and I have applied to UNC, Michigan, and Amherst so far. UNC is my number one choice, as I qualify for the Carolina Covenant.
