Can someone help me with fin aid?

$340.56 (As of sept. 8th)

Admin charge $21
Qtrly Dbl Room+Dining $1321.56

Revell orientation fee $160

Direct Loan Subsidized, pending $1162.00

= $340.56

So, did my financial aid kick in already? Do I have to pay that $340.56, and by when?

Thanks.

Yes, you have to pay that by September 17th.

Wheres tuition and other stuff?

I know, my list of fees were much longer than yours

Well, this is what shows up after I click “unpaid transactions”. When I owed like $7k+ last week, it showed a bunch of stuff like registration, etc.

Kind of a bummer I have to pay this… I got $20k in aid and I thought it would have covered it. :(

EDIT: Also, whats the diff between “Pay Your Last statement” and “Pay Your Current Balance”?

If you luck out, that $1162 you’re getting through the direct loan might kick in before the 17th so you won’t have to pay out of pocket.

So “pay your last statement” is the amount you have to pay, bare minimum. You see how it says “Statement Date: Aug 31. Due: Sep 17”? Anything charged to your account after August 31 (it’s called “recent activity” on Triton Link) you aren’t required to pay until your next statement - but if you pay now, it doesn’t hurt. It’s just like paying off a credit card statement, if you’ve dealt with that before.

I have the same issue. My current balance says I owe -$300 something, but my last statement says I owe $6372.45. When I click the “pay by mail” button, it says the amount due is $0.00 on the billing stub you’re supposed to print out. I’m confused.

@eltagra
Woah woah woah, my “pay last statement” shows like $2000+ I’m pretty sure. O_O So I have to pay that by Sept. 17th?! And the $340.56 on my “Current balance” I can wait until next statement?

Looks like I’m not getting a computer before I go. O_o

@op9no2. I know dude! I can’t pull up the exact figures right now since it’s offline for maintenance but I checked the recent activity. My current balance says that I should be owed $300 something at this point.

Did you try the ‘pay my mail’ yet by any chance? Let me know if you get any more information. I don’t want to get screwed by this. >.>

Hang on… Think of your statement as a bill you get in the mail once a month. It’s a snapshot of your account on a certain day and time. Your current balance is what you owe right now at the current time. It reflects all the money received toward payment of your account since the last statement. I believe this is the most accurate reflection of your account. If you owe money but have financial aid that is supposed to cover it, call and see if you have to pay or whether you can wait for the financial aid to kick in. Hope this helps.

So even though my main balance says $0.00, my loan section says this:
direct unsubsidized loan: $664.00
direct subsidized loan: $1162.00
total pending: $1826.00

adjusted amount due: $-1005.44

should i cancel my unsubsidized loan? i’ll still have $300 or so left over even if i did. i’m just worried about the numbers changing or something and then my not having enough money as a result of the cancellation. any suggestions?

What does it show for your current balance? If the amount shown is a credit amount, you don’t owe any money. Canceling the unsubsidized loan is up to you and how much money you want refunded to you.

How come your Qtrly Dbl Room+Dining is only $1321.56? Mine is $3196. Why is your housing so much cheaper?

woah… i don’t get anything that you guys have been discussing about. This is so confusing!

my ‘pay your last statement’ has about $2000 due by the 17th
but my ‘pay your current balance’ has zero. and when i go to ‘current account activity’ i have a negative number of money.

what do i have to pay? I tried to click pay by E-check but it says my balance is zero.

^^^ You do not have to pay anything. You are all set. If you have a negative balance, you will have a refund coming to you. :-)

^ohh thank you! can you explain to me what that ‘pay your last statement’ is?

Sure, I did that above but I know it is really confusing. My son is at Cal and it took me forever to understand all of this. Your statement is a snapshot of your account on a certain day and time. It’s like a bill you get in the mail. The current balance reflects everything that has occurred on your account up to the moment. It includes all the stuff that has happened after the last statement. So your statement had a balance, but financial aid has paid out since that statement. That is why your current balance is zero. The negative amount shown reflects a credit balance which you can have refunded to you. Does that make sense? Basically you always want to check your current balance. That will be the most up to date information on your account.

^ i get it! so the the ‘pay your last statement’ is just one of many bills that they snapped shot of? So I don’t have to worry about that but just worry about ‘pay your current balance’ section, right? thank you, you were so helpful! So i guess I’m done with paying my bills for now right? haah sorry for so many questions

Good. Isn’t it great to finally get it!? I remember feeling the same way. Some nice guy on the Berkeley page helped me see the light! haha… Yes, you should always look at the pay your current balance section. That will be the most accurate. As long as that is zero, you don’t owe anything. Yes, you will receive one ebill a month. Your next one should reflect all the financial aid that has paid out. I know UCSD is on the quarter system, so I don’t think you have to pay anything until the next quarter. Berkeley is on the semester system, my son was awarded full financial aid, and he doesn’t need to pay anything until next semester as long as he doesn’t incur any other charges. Did you sign up for the electronic funds transfer? If you have that, your refund will be deposited in your account automatically. I’m happy I could help and good luck at UCSD! My son was accepted there too and it’s an awesome university. Congratulations on getting accepted. :-)

aw you must be the best mom ever! haha um yes i did sign up for the direct deposit! Thanks again for all your help!
