Enrolled in direct deposit but haven't recieved my money.

I enrolled in direct deposit a while back and my financial aid has paid off all my bills and my trition account says You currently have a credit balance at UCSD of $1,656.21 but when i check my banking account I have no money.
I'm assuming this is a positive balance and when i calculated it was correct, but when i click the button 'pay by mail' it says -1,656.21.

same story for me, and i really need the money too. hope they pay soon, anyone know when they will do a deposit?

I’m starting to think that maybe that extra money is used strictly for tuition and other school fees and not for us to use on things we want to buy.

The financial aid guy said something to the effect that the disbursals are done in batches. He said they were running another one the same night I was talking to him. Maybe your money came in after that batch but before the next one. They do deposit the extra funds in your account, it’s not just for tuition.

I called fin aid and the woman told me the 14th would be the date.

I’ve talked to them numerous times, and I’ve always heard that the 24th of Sept. is the day that all remaining financial aid money will be direct deposited into our banks. This is from a bunch of different people in the financial aid office, so I’m pretty sure it’s right.

As the last two previous posters said, financial aid credit is not deposited until closer to the beginning of term. Financial aid counselors usually say it’s deposited on the day term begins, and it depends on your bank (how quickly they release the money), but from experience, it’s usually credited to my bank account 5 days before term begins.

It would be great if it were the 14th, this time!! I had an argument with one of the “less patient” counselors, as I was trying to figure out if there was an option to release the credit earlier. My points were: financial aid is used for tuition, housing, food, textbooks, etc; I am getting an apartment and need to pay the rent before the start of term; how am I to do that without the financial aid money? And who I spoke with was really blunt and just said no, it’s regulations set by the government.

Oh, by the way, the majority of counselors across campus are amazing! They are really helpful, and if you have a problem or a question, they’ll help you! Props to them!

If our funds are disbursed on the 24th and we need to pay by the 18th, how does that even work?

^ The leftover credits/money

I owe 800 bucks, but I don’t even have that in my bank account right now. The school has only paid a fraction of the FA they said they’d give me, so are they gonna take care of that 800 dollars, or do I really have to pay it with my own money by the 18th and just get reimbursed on the 24th?

BigB, I suggest you call the financial aid office, as soon as you can, just to be on the safe side. It may be that they still need to disburse more financial aid, or it may be they have already disbursed the financial aid. I hope they still need to give you money!!

[Edit]: By fraction of the FA, do you mean the Financial Aid for the whole year? Financial Aid for the whole year is divided by three [quarters], each piece disbursed before each term. If you meant they only gave you a fraction of the FA for the Fall Quarter, then yes, call asap! =)

Did you sign up for 12+ units? It doesn’t count the waitlisted classes.

but we need money for text books! they should give it sooner. >=0

You could always charge your parents credit card now and then pull the money out later. Thats what I am doing

I was also told by FinAid that only the tuition and fees portion needs to be paid by the
18th and that if need be, I could pay the room/board late and pay a late fee. Not great but at least it’s not as far up s**t creek.

You can pay for all your textbooks (and buy a laptop, for that matter) with the money in your student account at the bookstore. I wish they sent refunds earlier, too, but at least they don’t make you wait until 10 days into the quarter like a lot of places do.

Oh!! Thank you W. Erickson, I was not aware. So I have a lot of money in outside scholarships, but in order to retrieve that money I need to go the registrars office and give them the info, which won’t be until after the 18th. So what do I do? Am I reimbursed?

i don’t get this. I asked the financial aid about my stafford loan disbursement and he said the loan will be disbursed on the 14th. and the bills are due 18th. He said the just pay the balance minus the stafford loan… but how do I do that… I could only pay the full balance with echeck. If I do pay the whole thing what will happen to the stafford loan?

just pay the difference between fees etc and the expected loan disbursements…

you have to wait until the 14th to see the new balance so then you can pay the right amount with e-check
