Hi there. I was about done picking out my schools I was applying to, until I found out about Emory. It seems like a great school, but I want to know what type of chance you guys think I have in RD. I have until the end of the week to notify my school on the colleges I am applying to, so I need urgent advice. Thanks so much!!

GPA: 4.19 weighted....will go up to 4.283 after this semester.
Course load senior year: 6 APs.. trying to take more next semester.
SAT: 2270 (superscored... what most colleges will see). 780 M, 790 W, 700 CR... retaking
ACT: 33...
SAT Subject tests: Math 2: 740... Bio (M): 780
AP scores: 5 on English, Bio, APES........ 3 on AP World
rank: 16/321... should easily go up to top 5 after this semester (I am taking the most AP courses in the school).
ECs: Decent. I have a bunch of volunteering (tutoring, bball coach, hospital, library, through school) and some other unique stuff (i.e. founder and president of cricket club (sport)... sports writer).
Course Rigor- For my school, I will have taken probably the most or second most APs in the grade.
Letter of Recs: Excellent. One from AP Bio teacher and one from AP English teacher. My counselor one should be great!

So, yeah. I also plan on majoring in Biology. What do ya think? Any chance? Thanks. Also, what do you think about the pre-med at Emory?

ur concerned about my GPA? My school doesnt weight honors like most others. Furthermore, the highest GPA at my school is a 4.23 right now…I have a 4.19…

What is your unweighted GPA? Most top schools don’t look at weighted at all, they just expect you to have taken the most challenging course load. Everything looks fine, and up to par with Emory standards. You don’t look like you would stand out and be a definite acceptance, but you have no discrepancies either. I think that it is likely to go either way, but more likely you’ll get in. Maybe 65%-35%.

My d, who is interested in pre-med toured Emory. It was a beautiful school, located in a great section of Atlanta. It has a great endowment from the Coke company, the Centers for Disease Control are right next to it, and it has a hospital on campus. It has top notch academics, and is very strong in the sciences. So, yes, it is a great place for a pre-med student. But, as you might expect of a private school that has all that going for it, it is a bit pricey. Good luck in your application! - I am no expert, but your stats should get you a good chance of getting in, I would guess.

Also, it might be too late, but if it isn’t you should try ED II, that would really boost your application. I’m pretty sure the ED II admit rate is about 2x higher.

Thanks dramadad! Hope ur d gets in. @premed4- Yeah, I saw that. The thing is, I am not 100% committed to Emory and I do not want to be binded to Emory. I just want to keep my options open.

Your stats are pretty much identical to what mine were. My SATs were negligibly higher but my gpa was 3.8 unweighted (didnt have weighted) so my class rank suffered to about 25/450 or something.
I’ve had conversations with people here about what their stats were like (it comes up. I don’t think it’s an inferiority complex though.)
My high school stats stats are usually higher than others’ (but I feel I have to work a lot harder than others do for about the same grades in college as them). So I’d say you would get in fairly easily RD (although I wanna remind you that college is a crapshoot sometimes) . Don’t do ED2 if you dont want to commit here. That’d be dumb since you will have lots of options.
Also make sure you write well about emory specifically in your application (why should emory take you if they get the impression that it’s a backup… know what I mean? theyll accept you RD if they feel they have a legit shot at getting you. otherwise, it’s a crapshoot). good luck and nice job in high school.
