PLEASE chance a prospective emory applicant (:

I just finished my junior year a couple days ago. I'm thinking of starting some of my college apps during the summer just to lighten up the workload when I start school again.

My school is public but very competitive, ranked as one of the top in the state/nation. So there's a lot of ridiculously smart kids and challenging teachers.. I've been taking all honors/AP since 9th grade, and I'm the kind of kid who works their butt off and still end up with b's. Here's a quick list of my stats and activities. Please take it seriously and tell me if I'd have a good/poor chance of getting into Emory.

GPA: WEIGHTED 3.82

(had a C+ in 10th grade, first semester of AP US history. raised to an A second semester. Then got another C+ in AP biology 11th grade, raised it to a B second semester. My total gpa doesn't seem too bad, but I'm worried because I've had almost straight B's my junior year. It just evened out to be a decent number because I take so many weighted 5 pt. courses)

SAT Reasoning: superscored 2280

SAT Subject: Japanese 790, Math IIC 780, Biology 700, maybe taking literature in October. I got a 680 on US history, but don't want to put this one in.

AP's: USH 4, took three this may.

Community service: volunteered at an orphanage in Japan, played piano and flute for church.

EC's and leadership: was first chair flute for concert band in 10th grade (then moved up to higher band), founder/president of a charity club, tae kwon do (still a beginner though)

awards: national merit (not sure about semifinalist, but commended for sure), won 3 art contests (one national, one regional, one county), 2 flute competitions, 2 national spanish exam awards.

others: took philosophy and art history in a local community college, and got A's in both courses.

should i apply to emory in the fall, or will it be just a waste of time and money?
serious answers please.. thanks!

[edit]
sorry to make this so long. But just in case you need it, this is my senior year schedule:
1. AP Calculus AB
2. yearbook
3. AP government
4. AP Physics
5. AP SPanish
6. AP Literature

What’s your unweighted GPA?

Your SATs are way above average.

my unweighted is 3.49… i know… very low…

is it bad that my gpa is so low when compared to my SAT score?
i mean, do you think they might think I am smart but lazy and just doesn’t try in school or something? :(

the SAT is good, but your GPA is low
EC are ok, not particularly strong

I would say a 30% chance of you getting in

I don’t know. I’d say 50/50. Emory likes high GPAs, but you have a super high SAT score to offset a kinda low GPA.

If you’re really set at attending Emory, apply ED, or just apply to both Oxford and Emory RD. If you get in Emory RD, just go to Oxford for 2 years and then you’re onto Emory!

Just work on the GPA and you’re set. Probably a 3.6+ would do you well alongside your SAT.

@hilsa - Whaaa? No need for Oxford, 4 years of sunny Emory is good for the soul (no offense to Oxford, good school too).

Haha. I know.

I was just making the point that if he/she gets rejected from Emory, then he/she can still go to Emory by going to Oxford.

^^That’s true. : p
