I’m an in-state female student, here’s some info on me:

ACT: 27 (I hate tests, I know it’s not the highest)
GPA: 3.8
AP classes: 8 (US History, Biology, US Government, English Composition, Physics, English Literature, Statistics, Psychology)

My school has a class of around 300 and I’m in the top 25%.

Psychology or business major.

I do a lot:

  • Marching band (four years) - Section Leader (in charge of 27 people), Squad Leader (lead drill for 4 members), Lead soloist
  • Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony (prestigious audition based group, 3 years) - First chair clarinetist, played an a cappella solo at Severance Hall (where the Cleveland Orchestra plays)
  • Track: three years- varsity level
  • Academic Decathlon: have made it to States all four years, multiple medals, on main honors team
  • Pit Band: clarinet selected for musicals the last three years, lead soloist
  • National Honor Society: third year member
  • Karate: been doing it since I was 8, 3x state champion in 2 events, 3rd degree black belt, Level One Instructor, volunteer to teach classes

–Have lettered academically and have been on honor roll my entire high school career.

Volunteer work: over 120 hours

  • Lake Humane Society: Cat Caregiver
  • Lake Metroparks (local park system): help at various events such as hayrides, themed parties, etc.
  • Spirit of America Boating Program:I’m a licensed boater, teach kids how to kayak, maneuver boats over the summer
  • NHS events: helped organize a babysitting event

I’m really interested in OSU, so if anyone could give me some feedback it would be much appreciated!

Looks good to me. Your ACT is around where it needs to be, OSU doesnt really look at your gpa and your activities are well rounded and impressive.

I’m also applying this fall. Do you help at the farmpark?

Sorry to be negative, but I think with an ACT of 27 and not being in top 10% of the class, it is going to be hard for the columbus campus. For the Fall 2017 class, avg. ACT was 29.2 and 65% of the students were in top 10% of their high school class.

Your ACT is way to low. Ohio State has become very competitive and can attract top tier students.

I am appalled by the negative comments. I genuinely believe you have a very high chance of being admitted to Ohio State. My sister had the same ACT score with minimal EC’s. She participated in CCP program therefor took no AP courses. You sound solid to me, update me when you get in.

You are in a fairly competitive major and the median ACT score for class of 2021 was a 30. The 25th percentile was a 28. This is based on the OSU admissions website. Since you are below the 25th percentile for both ACT and class rank/GPA, you have a very small chance of admission.
