Can someone please take a look at my SAP appeal letter? What can I do different?

What Happened:
During the first few months of the spring semester my family had to move out of the home that we had been living in for about 9 years due to not being able to pay for our mortgage. As a result, we needed to move to a smaller home and for the entire spring semester I was desperately looking for a job to help support my family and I during that change. There even came a point that my mother had to use some of my financial aid money to pay bills. I must also admit that my time management skills need to be worked on especially since I found it so difficult to balance the constant search for a job, moving, and school work.

What Has Changed:
I realized that in order to find a job as fast as possible I was to put a halt to my studies and not take classes over the summer. As a result of that decision, I was able to find a job during the first week of July and now I am on my official third week of work. I feel as though I can now properly support myself and help my family through change. Also, to combat my time management problem I will take part in the Professional Growth Workshop and register for the Effective Time Management workshop specifically. With the current circumstances, I can now feel self-assured that I can effectively balance my school work with my job, especially now since we just settled into our new home. I have also attached the most recent out of my two pay stubs I received from work as proof of employment.

Are you going to school full time or part time? Are you working full time or part time? It sounds like you can commute to school from home?

While working full time during summer should be fine, when you are taking a full time course load that would not be advisable, especially if you are trying to raise your GPA to meet and exceed SAP.

So you might have to reduce your hours if you plan to go back to school. If your family is depending on your income then maybe you need to put college on hold a semester or two and just work.

For your appeal I would just state in a few short sentences what happened that caused interference with your studies.
And what you are doing now and plan to do, so you can be more successful in the future.

First…you have some grammar errors that need to be fixed. You also have some very awkwardly worded sentences. Fix those things.

Like this:

And this:

I don’t see anything in your letter thst tells what you ALREADY have done to help this situation. You didn’t take classes over the summer, but really…MOST college students do NOT take classes over the summer.

As noted…state what happened briefly! Then state what you have already done to deal with your time management skills, and whatever else.

Then tell what you will continue to do if allowed to enroll again with aid.

A couple of questions.

What financial aid of yours did your mother have access to…that she was able to use to pay bills?

How far off the mark are you? Did you fail or drop a lot of courses? What is your GPA?

Thanks for replying! To answer your questions:

  1. It was the financial aid refund check that was used. She let me know about it before using it and I was okay with it.
  2. I currently have a 1.7 GPA and failed 2 out of 4 classes during the spring semester.

Yeah, I was hoping to start another semester but as a part time student. I also dont have transportation of my own to head to work so its usually a family member that drops me off at work. I work full time.

I’ll update the letter and come back to this forum! Those sentences did feel awkward but I wasnt sure how to fix them. Embarrassingly enough, I still have problems with grammar.

So you may drop below half-time status at your college? If so, do you have loans that you’ll need to start repaying?
