Can Subject Test Scores Be Sent Seperately?

My son got an 800 in Chem and 770 in Math II. He KNOWS he can ace the math, (he said he just lost concentration on the second test). Can he take JUST the Math 2 over or does he have to take them both over i.e. could he send colleges only the 800 in chem taken on 5/7 and then the (assumed) 800 in math 2 taken on 6/4 (without them knowing about the 770 on 5/7)?

Will all colleges allow him to do this or do the more exclusive ones require him to send all scores?

Is there any way to cancel the just the Math 2 score taken on 5/7 at this point?

Do you have any links to information supporting your answers?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Depends on the school. For instance, the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, and Georgetown (all top schools) require the submission of ALL test scores. As a result, your son would have to submit the 800 Chem from 5/7/11 and then the 770 and 800 (predicted) Math-II scores from 5/7 and 6/4, respectively. At these top schools, they tend to focus on your top score, so the 770 would not be a problem. Improvement is always a benefit, remember that!

It would be thoroughly unnecessary to retake a 770 in math. Exactly as you said: someone who is a genius in math can loss a few points if he lost concentration, and the admission officers understand this. They’re looking at the applications holistically to first confirm that the student can handle the work at their university (for which a 770 on the subject tests certainly serves as a validation), then move on to other aspects to see whether the candidate is an interesting candidate for the freshman class.

But for your questions, yes, he can just take the math over again without retaking chem. For colleges that accept Score Choice, he may select any single/multiple subject test to be sent regardless of test date. However, be aware that there’re schools out there that do not accept score choice as hardworking21 said, in which case all scores from all test dates must be sent. For a list of the schools’ score choice practices, check the CollegeBoard website:

No, there’s no way to cancel the math 2 score at this point. And why cancel the perfectly good score ?

Thanks for all the replies. I guess my only question now is whether he needs to take the Chem over again. I’d hate to see him score lower on that one when he is just trying to improve his math. So let me make sure I understand this…if he just takes the Math 2 over, we will be able to either:

1) send the score from his 5/7 Chem and his 6/4 Math 2 (assuming a good performance) or

2) if the college/scholarship requires all scores send them all (the 5/7 chem and math 2 and the 6/4 math 2)

right? If so, then in either case, the college/scholarship will see the chem 800 and the worse case is that they may see the 770 Math 2 but be able to judge it against a later 800 Math 2. Am I getting this right?

Thanks again!

Yes, you are correct.
