Can the fact that a sibling goes to Brown help me?

My sister is currently attending Brown. Can this be an advantage? or it doesnt even matter? Oh, also my sister and I went to the same high school in NJ and we are internationals…
Thank you!!

Hopefully not.

It isn't so much a "legacy" advantage but does show that you made a very informed decision in applying to Brown so probably have great interest in attending - and they do want to choose applicants who will choose Brown!

You are considered "legacy" if a sibling attended Brown. So yes, it does help.

However (and I feel like a broken record saying this), as an international, if you need financial aid, you need to be know that Brown is need-aware for internationals, and that can affect the admissions decision.

Yes, it does. You're now a legacy. As usual, fireandrain is on the money.

it can be somewhat helpful if i dont need financial aid?
thank you for answering guys!!

Only anecdotal evidence to offer: Of the two girls I know who applied to Brown last year (2012) who each had a sister already at Brown, one got in and one didn't. Both had very high everything. So there you go. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

yes, it does help. significantly.

with all that said, i hope you're at least moderately qualified.
