Can this actually help me!?

I recently discovered this website, and I realize I may be annoying to some, but I apologize if that is the case.

For my academics, I am beyond Average, but for extra curriculars, I didn't have much, because my family can't afford enrolling me. We barely got by. I was in student parliament, yearbook committee, school sport teams, volunteer, and had a website etc. That stuff I just did on my free time. When I was 14, I got a job which potentially stopped my family and I from going on the streets. I gradually got more hours, and the majority of my money went to my parents to pay for the debts, and that still happens today. Sometimes, we go through days where we barely eat. Can I include this in my app in some way or another, (prefer not my essay as it may seem like a sob story). Maybe in the "other" category of my extra curriculars? Can this be seen as impressive?

Also, what About doing religious acts, like I'm a Muslim, and every year I fast for 30 days straight for Ramadan. That could show my dedication, as it's not forced on you in the religion to do, and especially not for a month.

Thanks alot guys.:)

By the way, I want to apply to Yale.

Do you actually not eat for one month? Or do you just eat less or skip certain meals?

Most colleges ask for extenuating circumstances. It could help make up for a lack of ECs, but you’ll probably still need the GPA and test scores to match.

@dapotatoman

Try using wikipedia, it’ll tell you all about Ramadan :)

Yeah, my grades and scores are really high up. And also, I have many extra curriculars, especially for someone In my situation.

But I can’t include in my extracurriculars that I nearly saved my family from being sent onto the streets, while maintaing high academic scores, and some decent extras that are unique and show leadership?

Presumably you’ll list your job in your extracurriculars. You could maybe put it there if you have space; otherwise you could put something in the additional info section. Or, you could ask your counselor to include info about it in his rec letter.

briefly mention it in your ec sheet, but write about it in your essay. it makes you unique

this smells and looks like an excellent essay topic. just dont try and milk pity too much.
